Michael van Gerwen gave Canadian Jeff Smith no chance and whitewashed him in the final of the US Darts Masters 2023 in New York!
Mighty Mike kicked of his quest for a second American title with a 6-2 win over another Canadian Jake Macmillan having average 91.15.
In his first match of Saturday the Dutchman defeated runner-up of the CDC Cross-Border Darts Challenge, Jim Long 6-2. Long produced the biggest suprise of the first day of the US Masters, as he eliminated the world number one Michael Smith.
The Silencer, who won mentioned Cross-Border Challenge defeated Peter Wright 6-2 on Friday and the same results was born also in his second match against Nathan Aspinall. Gerwyn Price produced phenomenal average 104.37 but it was not enough to defeat Luke Humphries!
Canadian Nr. 2 shocked the Madison Square Garden for the fourth time in the semifinal. Smith was losing 3-5 and 5-6 to Humphries but CoolHand Luke missed one match darts and Smith turned the match around.
The second semifinal has very similar course of the match as The Voltage led already 6-4 with 170 check-out but a recent winner of the Premier League, Michael van Gerwen, won three legs in a row and won 7-6. Cross missed one match dart in the last leg of match as he hit only green bull instead of the red one.
However, the final match was One Man Show of Michael van Gerwen. The Dutchman did not even play his best darts, but Smith produced average only 86.41 and threw only 5 darts on the doubles, missing all of them. Michael van Gerwen whitewashed Canadian and won his second title in the United States after the title from Las Vegas event in 2017.
